Practicing Human Rights Fellows Program

Practicing Human Rights Fellows Program

Justice Initiative Practicing Human Rights Fellows Program

Implemented for the first time in 2003 in cooperation with CEU and the OSI Network Scholarship Program, this is a one-year program of practical work experience for three current students at the CEU Legal Studies Department and three students from the OSI/Chevening Human Rights Program at the University of Essex in the United Kingdom. After completion of their respective courses of study, participating fellows devote one year working full-time on human rights advocacy on a non-profit basis: providing legal services, undertaking human rights litigation, and/or providing training and education. By offering concrete opportunities to gain practical experience, the program provides incentives for beneficiaries of foreign study opportunities to return to use their new knowledge and skills in their home countries. Applicants from the following countries and regions are eligible: central and eastern Europe, the former Soviet Union, Guatemala, Haiti, Mongolia, southern and west Africa and southeast Asia.
