A core mission of the Justice Initiative is to provide intellectual leadership to law reform efforts by combining practice and legal advocacy with the accumulation and dissemination of knowledge in its areas of core concern. The Justice Initiative aims to serve as a laboratory for law reform, incorporating self-critical reflection into its program development and evaluation, and synthesizing lessons learned through successes and disappointments. As part of these activities, the Justice Initiative strives to build bridges of discourse—between advocates in developed and developing countries, between academics and practitioners, between lawyers and non-lawyers, and among government, business and the NGO sector.
The Justice Initiative Resident Fellowships Program offers an opportunity to young law school graduates with some human rights experience and good program management skills to undertake innovative legal education, litigation or advocacy projects in countries of Justice Initiative focus. Fellows are typically placed in a resident university legal clinic or an NGO which is pursuing one or more projects requiring assistance. Fellowships are for up to one year.
