Round Table Discussion on Legal Aid in Turkey: policy issues and comparative perspectives, 16 April 2004
On April 16, 2004, the Bilgi University Human Rights Center in Istanbul, in cooperation with the Open Society Justice Initiative, convened a round table discussion on “Legal aid in Turkey: policy issues and comparative perspectives.” Turkey is making a concerted effort to raise human rights standards, including the introduction of improvements in legal aid available to the poor. The event was the first of its kind to map the state of criminal and civil legal aid delivery in Turkey and to call attention to issues of accessibility, quality and effectiveness of criminal and civil legal aid delivery schemes in the country.
