After his trial on charges of war crimes and crimes against humanity before the ICC, Jean-Pierre Bemba Gombo now stands accused along with four others of seeking to influence the outcome of the process by bribing witnesses.

The former Congolese politician and militia leader faces a second trial on charges of crimes against the administration of justice, together with two senior members of his defense team, a Congolese Member of Parliament, and a defense witness.

This briefing paper—with timeline—explains the background to the trial, the first of its kind at the court.
